About the Augusta Sports Council

The Augusta Sports Council is proud to be the local host organization for the Augusta Half Marathon, 10K & 5K. This annual event serves as the organization's primary fundraising event for the annual G.A.M.E.S. Scholarship fund which is awarded to selected graduating high school student athletes each May.

The ASC is a 501c(3) organization geared with enriching the quality of life and economic well-being for the Augusta metropolitan area by supporting and attracting sporting activities. Established in 1991 by a group of sports-minded volunteers with a goal of recruiting sporting events to the community, the ASC has created, recruited, or supported over 800 events in the Augusta community which include the '96 Olympic Box-offs, '99 and '02 Georgia Games Championships, Nike EYBL Peach Jam Basketball, USA Cycling Championships, and the IRONMAN 70.3 Augusta. These events have attracted 450,000+ athletes to compete in Augusta, leaving behind more than $200 million in economic impact.

In 2000, the Augusta Sports Council created the Ray Guy Award to recognize the FBS Punter of the Year. Ray is a Thomson, Ga. native and was inducted into the NFL Hall of Fame in 2014. The award is presented annually during The Home Depot College Football Awards, broadcast live on ESPN.

2008 marked the first year that the ASC hosted the half marathon event in downtown Augusta.  For runners who weren't up for the half marathon, a 10K, 5K and kids fun run was also added!

Proceeds from the 2025 Augusta Half Marathon, 10K & 5K event will directly benefit our annual GAMES Scholarship Fund!

History

The G.A.M.E.S Scholarship began in 2011 as part of the Augusta Sports Council’s annual G.A.M.E.S. Awards, an annual program created to highlight outstanding amateur athletes who represented a broad spectrum of sports disciplines in the area.

To date, the Augusta Sports Council has awarded over $88,000 in college scholarships to 78 graduating high school student-athletes in the Augusta community. To learn more about our annual G.A.M.E.S Scholarship, click here.

Wear Blue Mile: Mile 11 of the Augusta Half Marathon

Along mile 11 of the Augusta Half Marathon, wear blue Mile volunteers line a mile of the course holding American flags with names of fallen service members embroidered onto attached ribbons. Posters with the name and image of each fallen military member line the stretch leading up to the flags. The wear blue Mile is a living memorial honoring the lives of U.S. service members who made the ultimate sacrifice.

wear blue: run to remember, in support of its mission to honor the service and sacrifice of the American military, creates the wear blue Mile at officially designated races. The wear blue Mile is comprised of two parts – (1) Faces of the Fallen posters and (2) American flags (each draped with a black ribbon, bearing the name of a fallen military member) held by volunteers. Volunteers from Fort Gordon and the local community create a living memorial to honor those who have given the ultimate sacrifice
